Probably about 2 for dd 1. Didn’t bother at all with the second one!

Jules912 · 29/11/2023 20:15

About 5 for DS but our bedroom was on a different floor so couldn't reliably hear him without and also didn't want him falling down the stairs half asleep if he came to find us.
DD was younger as we moved so she just had to walk across the landing.

Zaney40 · 29/11/2023 20:17

About 1.5 for our first. Can't remember using one for our second. He was loud and a good sleeper!

We only used it if we were in unfamiliar places with DC1 and didn't bother with 2 and 3 .

DappledThings · 29/11/2023 21:21

When DC were about 6 and 4. In the evening that is. Can't hear them from lounge and had a couple of times one of them had woken up, we hadn't heard them call out and they'd got themselves really upset and sobbing before we heard which was horrible.

At night time much younger because their rooms are next to ours.

KThnxBye · 29/11/2023 21:23

2 weeks, it was worse than useless so never bothered again

mynameiscalypso · 29/11/2023 21:24

DS is 4 and a bit. We've mulled losing the monitor but it makes our life so much easier especially in the mornings when it's sometimes difficult to tell if he's actually awake or not based on sounds alone.

GreatGateauxsby · 29/11/2023 21:24

Wow quite surprised at this...

Most people I know gave up bothering before 1...are all my parent friends lassiez faire?

We stopped around 9-10m with our first.
We could hear her a floor and two doors away. Easily.

Peepshowcreepshow · 29/11/2023 21:25

Never did, could hear her in her room from anywhere in the house.

mondaytosunday · 29/11/2023 21:25

When he moved into a proper bed at 20 months. He was on a separate floor but we'd have heard him if he needed us! We always kept our bedroom door open. Probably the same with second but as with most things I remember better with the first baby!

WowOK · 29/11/2023 21:26

I still use mine. The kids are 3 and 4.

SarahLHs · 29/11/2023 21:28

Stopped using it when DD1 had just turned 3 because we needed it for DD2 and didn't want to buy another one!

ForeverTired89 · 29/11/2023 22:21

Still using with my 3.5 year old.

dhxxx · 30/11/2023 05:09

Stopped around 12 months as I could hear her anywhere jn the house. I was always forgetting to charge it anyway

NatalieH2220 · 30/11/2023 06:24

I still have one for my 3yo. I like being able to check on him easily instead of getting out of bed.

Ostryga · 30/11/2023 06:27

Never used one! I’m not sure why, I think when she was really small she was bf all the dang time so was always with me, and then when she was 6mo or so she could squark loud enough for me to hear her anywhere in the house.

SErunner · 30/11/2023 06:51

Still using one at 2 for evenings and mornings. As per others, can't consistently hear her downstairs without one and in the mornings it's useful to know when she's awake. We didn't ever have one on overnight as she was either in our room or next door, so easy to hear.

39and · 30/11/2023 07:11

Still using with 3.5 year old. He knows there's a monitor and he looks and talks into it when he needs us. It's quite sweet.

Sparthan · 30/11/2023 07:14

We still use it at 6. DS sometimes wakes up crying and yelling ‘mum’ so I have to see to him. Not all the time - maybe a couple of times a week, but I need to be able to hear him and I can’t hear without the monitor.

NamelessNinja · 30/11/2023 07:17

About age 5, it was useful that we could hear him if he became upset overnight down the other end of the hallway. I don't understand the competitiveness around getting rid of them early, if they're useful to you, keep using them, if they're not then don't. However we didn't find continuing to use used any effort!

Tisfortired · 30/11/2023 07:19

Never used one with DS1, we had one but he was a good sleeper so we just stopped using it - could easily hear him anyway in the little house. DS2 (11 months) not so much a great sleeper so still use everyday for naps and evening when we’re downstairs but not through the night as he’s in the next room.

Daisies12 · 30/11/2023 07:22

Never used one
