Hi ladies
can’t believe I’m posting again but omg I’m going insane over baby bottles…. (Long post incoming so sorry!!)
DD is 4 weeks, I’ve been using tomee tippee since she was born. All was fine but lately it seems the teet is too fast for her so she keeps choking. I do my absolutely best to pace feed her but this still doesn’t stop the choking completely… from what I can see she doesn’t seem to really latch onto the bottle properly as in there’s no resistance when I’m pulling the bottle out. But because she chokes so much and gets so carried away, the pace feeding means constant breaks which is causing her to fall asleep during a feed so where she was taking around 3-4oz, she’s now only taking about 2oz.
i have the slowest tomee tippee teat. I tried her on The vari flow teats after a conversation with MIL who said these help as the flow goes to the babies suck, but this was 10x worse and the milk was just completely pouring out down her neck poor thing!!
i then moved onto MAM to see if these would help. The newborn teats were too slow and she was falling asleep after 1-2oz, I could see how out of breath she was during the feed as well! So I moved up to size 1 teat and again just seemed too slow where she was falling asleep having half her normal amount and getting all out of breath. I thought maybe size 2 teats would help after a google where a lot of people had said that size 2 was perfect from 1 month onwards, but again, these were too fast.
ive now gone back to the TT bottles. baby drppped weight after birth and was on 11th centile when born so health visitors have advised not to allow feeds to drop too much to avoid weight loss.
I have honestly spent an absolute fortune on TT and MAM bottles / teats now … not to mention all the time sterilising and also the agg for DD who is probably getting very confused !!
I really do not know where to go from here. Reluctant to buy Dr Brown bottles because looking at reviews a lot of people have problems with these leaking. Also not sure if changing bottles is really going to do much good again as just another thing to confuse DD at this point.
please help if anyone has experienced the same! I’m really don’t know if it’s just my DD that’s like this! I’m waiting for a call from HV this week to discuss but would like to crack on with sorting the issue for DD as soon as possible so she can be content with her feeds without the constant breaks that I’m having to do now to stop her choking and without falling asleep halfway through!!
