What is normal regarding playdates in reception?
We go for regular playdates with my friends kids but none from my child's school yet as I don't really know any of the mums well enough. My sister also has a child in reception (different school) and has been invited on a few different playdates with kids from her child's class. Not sure if I should be making more of an effort? Both kids are boys

Both mine are boys as well and I really struggled with DS when he started. My advice is to just go up to parents on drop off/pick up and start chatting! I used to ask my DS who he played with at school and although it took about a year he's now in Y1 and regularly has playdates with a few of the boys in his class. I even got the confidence to invite a group of his friends + parents over for a barbecue in the Summer. With DS no.2 who is 3 he started the nursery 5 mornings a week this year and it is a lot harder. I think because at that age they don't play with specific ''friends'' they just play as a group and it is probably similar in Reception. My advice would be to just talk to parents on the playground and invite them over. They'll probably appreciate it as they might be feeling the same way as you.
