Baby waking every 30 minutes - regression?

Hi all, we’ve always had trouble getting DD to sleep in her next to me since birth! She used to scream when put down then would wake instantly when she left our arms.

Just recently we’ve seen some improvements with her sleeping an hour plus at a time in there, but the last week or so she wakes consistently at 30 mins on the dot!

She’s also waking more generally at the start of the night (we’re still doing shifts so we can both sleep 😭) and will have 1-3 hours awake in the early hours - she doesn’t cry, is just wide awake!

All this is foiling my plans, hopes and dreams of more cot time, and sleep for us!

DD will be 5 months next week, we follow wake windows and she naps well and is nursed or rocked to sleep.

Is this a regression? When will it end??

i see lots about getting babies to fall asleep independently to help, but how do you do this??

Hi @CeCe2023

This sounds fairly similar to my first DD, in terms of falling to sleep independently I had always nursed her to sleep and then when I stopped BF it was a bottle and cuddle before bed then once asleep put her in her cot. she got much less sensitive to being placed in her cot the older she got, so that just took time. She is 3.5 now and we still stay with her until she is asleep, which is fine as she drops off in minutes after a book in bed.

She did get hit by the 4 month progression/regression. and it sorted itself out after a couple of months with longer stretches returning.

If nursing/ rocking to sleep works for you then no need to change.

Try the Lucy Wolf book. It's very helpful but doesn't start teaching self settle until 6 months. It's stay and support so really gentle technique. Using this DD was falling asleep on her own from around 8/9 months (vast majority of the time) x

Have they ever had reflux? When my daughter started waking every half hour it was a sign I needed to get her reflux meds reviewed

Never had reflux @Superscientist and no signs at all.

I think it’s all the regression and adjusting, she’s doing so much atm with rolling and is so engaged! We’re just paying for it at night but hopefully it’ll pass!

If we get to 6 months and the cot is still a huge issues we’ll look at some gentle approaches. I’m wary of sleep training as I think it can be a con but might get desperate enough to try!
