So my 3 year old had ear pain on the 16th nov took him to the gp and they gave him antibiotics, after finishing the course he was still complaining of ear pain and coughing really bad later on. So went back to the gp and they said his ear still looks red so gave him more antibiotics since last Thursday. He hasn’t had fever since then and was eating and drinking well however complaining of tummy pain. I just felt he was hot tonight so took his temp and it was 38.5. Just gave him calpol but I don’t know why he’s getting fever again. Do I need to take him back to the gp? He’s also sleeping more since he’s on antibiotics

Did the GP do a swab? They usually need to check that the antibiotics given actually work on the infection?

@LostMySocks
no they didn’t, first they gave him amoxicillin and then they gave him another one I can’t remember the name of my head now..

Keep in contact with the GP sometimes it takes a few courses of antibiotics

Your 3 yr old can't advocate for himself so don't worry about staying in contact t with your Gp till he's better

@Mirrormeback yeah I will get him a gp appointment tomorrow and see what they say his temp has gone down after calpol thankfully. But definitely will get him checked out tomorrow, so bad too see him like this 😩

Sleeping is a sign his body is fighting the bug off. Give him plenty of probiotic stuff, yogurt, kombucha, etc. to regrow the bacteria in his gut, that's really important for his overall health. Try to go low sugar as well.

My DD has had a few recurring ear infections. I would be asking the GP if they would take a swab as my DD has always needed the 2nd line antibiotics to clear it.
It’s important to keep the ear clean and dry following the infection (easier said than done in the bath!!) so the drum can heal.

I took to him to gp and they think he’s got a chest infection so they gave him different antibiotics now. But his breathing rate was also a bit fast and they said I need to keep a low threshold if his breathing gets a bit worst that I should take him to ae I am worried now. How do I check him breathing?
