Hi all,
Hope you can help. My sons woken up with blister type spots over his legs and some scattered around his body. I don't know what they are? Could these be chicken pox or something else? Please help! Thank you

Could be chicken pox. Any have a yellow head yet?

At the early stage chicken pox does look like bites as well. But seems unlikely that your child would have been so hugely bitten?

Watch out for sudden rise in temp a few days in and suddenly baby feeling much worse/ having sore throat - we were getting lots of scarlet fever with chickenpox here and mine caught it that way. Easy to mistake for the pox.

Hi @Legoroses thanks for replying so quick. None have yellow parts on them - it's so hard to know if it's chicken pox especially being a first time mum! He has otherwise been in good spirits and no temperature but will keep an eye out. Thank you

Do you have any pets? For flea bites? our dog got fleas and our poor toddler got bit terribly and no one else in the house did. His would raise in bumps like yours and then blister it was a bloody nightmare. Once the dogs fleas went the bites went too. Apparently insects like young bodys because their skin smells sweeter. Bed bug bites are very similar to flea bites too sudocrem was advised by the chemist to put on his xx

I've got to say the last child with chickenpox in this house, (after we'd had it here 3 times already!) both my husband and I thought it was bites for 3 days. Took us ages to realise.

An update on the situation: the spots have now got much worse. Any ideas???

@Legoroses does it look similar to the last photo? He has huge patches by his armpits too

I think that probably is chickenpox. We were able to send a photo to the GP to confirm.

And the escalation in spots is quite chickenpox-y.

Legoroses · 26/11/2023 19:09

Are they blistered? Hard to see on that photo.

Jadeypie · 26/11/2023 19:22

They have got a lot worse could be a reaction to whatever it is. My sons bites didn't get like that and he did have a reaction to them maybe get him checked out xx

Has he been ill? Or had antibiotics recently?
My son had a reaction to penicillin (he had finished the course a few days before) and it looked like that when it started.

Hi all,
Thank you for your replies. Just got back from a&e. Definitely confirmed no chicken pox. They said he had a very sore throat, likely tonsillitis which may get worse and they believe the rash has developed as a result of that. I wasn't very convinced but they gave him some antihistamine and I guess ruled out anything sinister which has somewhat put me at ease. Will continue to monitor. Thank you all xx
