Hiya quick question as getting a bit confused. My son turns 1 next thursday and me and my partner was thinking of giving my son a duvet as he gets cold during the night. I asked in a facebook group about it and they have said no beacuse the sides of the cot are not down. Is this true that he can not have a duvet unless the sides of the cots are down and also would he be able to sleep with a small teddy at 1. Any advice would be great. He does not like sleeping bags and he does fidget a lot in his sleep one min he is at the bottom of the cot next he is at the top then back down the bottom but turned around lol. He takes after his father and moves a lot in his sleep

Yes the advice is not to have a duvet in a cot. You can have one in a toddler bed or floor bed as it doesn’t have sides. I think the idea is if the duvet gets caught between the mattress and cot side they could get stuck underneath.
i think you can introduce a comforter such as a teddy from one year old. You can also introduce a thin toddler pillow from one as well although again I think a pillow is supposed to only be in a bed not a cot but we gave our 1 year old (now 20 months) a pillow in his cot and feel it wouldn’t be fair to take it away now he’s used to it.

Also would maybe a sleeping bag with feet help? Our toddler has 2.5 tog “sleeping bags” with legs and fold over feet so he doesn’t feel so constricted but still warm. He moves a lot in his sleep too (we actually have a pillow each end of the cot for this reason) so I think even if we did get a duvet he would be cold as he’d move so much it would come off.

We moved her to a duvet when we put her in a bed at 2

She learnt how to take herself out of her sleeping bag at 18 months so we doubled up PJ's with thin t shirt and leggings under the pjs. We couldn't use sleep suits as she removed them too. Then she had several blankets a big muslin that we tucked her up in then a cellular blanket on top of that and if very cold two cellular blankets. Until she woke in the night and she came onto our bed around 1am

I would go for it, the chances of it getting stuck anywhere seem very unlikely. Those toddler duvets are light and a one year old can definitely lift them and move them.
