Toddler head glued at A&E now bald patch

My little girl had to have her head glued at A&E over a month ago when she got a cut head. They glued it back together. And it has healed perfectly but the glue has been in her hair since and hasn't dissolved yet. Tonight some of the glue came away with clumps of her hair in it revealing a bald patch. I'm hoping the rest of the glue wont cause this too. Will it stay bald
Forever? As I'm guessing hair doesn't grow where scars are? :-(

I have this bald lump on my head after getting my hair glued, I don't think anyone has ever seen it! My hair covers it. Once her hair grows long, it'll cover over it! Hope she's ok

Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/11/2023 20:27

No hair will grow on the actual scar. Where abouts is it on her head?

TerribleWoman · 22/11/2023 20:29

My son cut his head open at the crown when he was 3, had the wound glued. He is almost 20 now and still has a tiny bald patch.

Thank you @Ywlala92

@Muchtoomuchtodo it's on the crown of her head. She didn't have much hair as it is so I'm hoping more will grow around it and it won't be as noticeable 🤞

I have one. I use it to scare children about the dangers of rocking on chairs. Grin

No one see it unless i show them. Where is it?

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 20:30

@TerribleWoman yes sadly it's the crown of her head so perhaps she will forever have a bald patch 😥 poor thing!

I have a scar on the back of my head from when I fell off the monkey bars - no hair has ever grown back there but the rest of my hair covers it fine!

Ywlala92 · 22/11/2023 20:30

@parentingtwo you've just described it far better than I did in my other post! That's exactly what will happen. The only time anyone ever saw mine was when I made the very poor decision to get braids on holidays as a child! 😅

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 20:30

😂 @MrsTerryPratchett crown of her head

@Ywlala92 😂 we will avoid braids in that case! Haha

You care because your perfect, beautiful, tiny child has been affected.

For HER though, scars will be fun and you need to be able to have one to show. Scars tell stories and under her hair is pretty perfect. She can show it, or cover it.

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 20:35

@MrsTerryPratchett yes very true. I know it is me who cares and she won't mind as much. The story is an entertaining one as her brother hit her around the head with a massive monster truck as she wouldn't get out of his way 😂 sibling fun!

She might be able to disguise it in the future with a different hair parting. But she may not mind it. Or it may not be that obvious once she has more other hair.

Eastofe · 22/11/2023 20:53

I had my head glued as a child, from being hit with a metal spade in a sandcastle accident. The clump of hair that was stuck to the glue came off, but grew back within a few months it was like I had waxed a patch. Hair doesn't grow on the actual scar but it is very thin so it's not really noticable to others.

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 20:55

Thank you @Eastofe that's made me feel better.

Awww bless her! I have two scars on my scalp from where it was glued when I was a kid, I have a LOT of hair so they are well-hidden, the only time they’ve ever given me any trouble is where I used to have scalp bleach and a new hairdresser used a developer that was a bit too strong and my scalp split and bled along the scars. I’ve just asked DP to check and see if he can see them, he can but said they are only about 1-2mm wide! Her hair will grow 🩷

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 20:59

thank you @WetBandits . As you say I think her hair will grow and thicken up (albeit will always be fine like mine) but will become less obvious over time. Think it just freaked me out this evening as I wasn't expecting the clumps of hair / the bald patch and my husband isn't home so had no one to panic/cry to 😂.

My son, now 16, has a scar from having his head glued after being hit with a wooden pig sty from a farm set by his older brother, then 5. The only time we notice it is at the barbers, his older brother still feels guilty and my youngest makes the most of it. PP is right, its a story for her to tell when she is older.

HamBone · 22/11/2023 21:04

Sorry OP, I agree with PP’s. DS (15) had staples when he hit his head on a radiator at 3…hair’s never grown on that scar. But, you can’t see it at all.

Once your DD’s hair gets past the fine toddler stage it won’t be noticeable.

parentingtwo · 22/11/2023 21:06

Thank you @HamBone x

Thank you @Barleycat - glad to hear the sibling fights are also happening elsewhere 😂. I was one of four and remember the injuries well!

I have double scar (hit the same place twice on two different occasions - my head must stick out funny there). Have a big bobbly bumpy scar and the cut the second time was very deep and wide. But I have my hair longish so literally no one would know. Don’t think my partner even knows?

I do sometimes wonder what it would look like with a shaved head but I reckon people would be more interested in my shaved head than the scar. Plus most people with shaved heads have at least one little scar somewhere I’m sure.

she’ll be fine and beautiful bald patch or not. Kids are such a stress!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 22/11/2023 22:22

MY 17yo DD split her head open when she was 2 or 3. Hair doesn't grow on the scar but you can't see it any longer. I've just had to really look for it and part her hair in strange places to find it. I'd forgotten about it until you just posted.

WhyMeWhyNowWhyNot · 22/11/2023 22:26

My teen DS has 3 scars on the back of his head 😬 - he has very short hair but they’re still barely noticeable! I was horrified at the time though 😩
