One year old sleeping too much? So worried

Sleeps 14 hours a night and an hour in the day, my first, is this normal? Always slept 10 hours and gradually got longer but I feel like 14 is too much?

That’s not a lot of napping in the day for their age. Maybe making up for it at night.
When they are awake are they happy, alert and full of beans?? Or lethargic and miserable. Are they hitting most of their milestones?

@Smartiepants79 they used to nap longer in the day, that seems to have dwindled to one nap for an hour. They are normal when awake yes. Milestones seem normal. Just seems like far too much, would you go to gp?

I think if they were otherwise bright and well I wouldn't worry. Mine were napping 2-3 hours in the day at 1, but only sleeping 10-11 hours at night so that evens out.

@staybyyou Was it one nap in the day or two?

How many months old? A 13 month old is different from a 23 month old!

I personally wouldn't be bothered by this, but I've always had early risers so this sounds fab to me. My 23 month old currently does 10-11 hours overnight and a 2 hour nap.

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee sorry, they’re 13 months next week. Not had mmr yet so unrelated to that!

Yes thats not a lot of day time nap, my 14 month old will usually do around 3 hours of naps in the day, across 2 naps-1 in the morning about 2 hours after waking up and 1 in the afternoon.

Smartiepants79 · 21/11/2023 08:49

I think that across a 24 hour period that’s not too much sleep.
If they are bright and alert and growing as they should I wouldn’t be bothering the gp.
Do you have a health visitor drop in or weighing clinic you could pop to.

Mine often did 13hr at night and a 2hr nap in the day at that age

At 9 months my youngest (now 28) slept 12/13 hours a night and would have a good hour or more after lunch.
As an adult he still requires a lot of sleep.
