I've recently moved with my dc away from his dad who he only seen twice a month. We are an hours flight away but I'm very conscious of how this might impact dc when older. Dc is 4 currently. Has anyone been through this when they where younger even a further distance by car and if so have you any tips? I really don't want dc to blame me when they are older for moving away or suddenly wanting to go live with their dad. I had to move ad I had no support from the dad bar 2 days a month and no family of my own to help as I was struggling with mental health and if I became ill etc was no support for dc. I guess I'm asking if anyone knows what i can expect and how can I minimize any negative effect on him?

Not exactly the same but my daughter's father moved to the other side of the world when she was 2, and was on and off there for about 8 years. She is a confident and sorted adult now and has a fairly decent relationship with him (and - happily- a great relationship with me). I don't think the nuclear family is essential, and it's not always practical.
