My DS is at this stage as well. I tend to snigger because I am very childish too, but have lately started telling him that it's OK to talk like that at home with Mummy but that other people don't like it.
Of course, we are potty training as well so there is quite a lot of discussion of smelly poo...

Now can someone come up with strategies to stop the endless 'Why'-ing?

Madamez.

MAke up more and more ridiculous answers until they self-conbust in confusion.

The funniest joke ever in my 3 yr old's world is to change the words to 'Little Bunny Foo Foo" [patience of a saint emotion]

OP, do not buy this book for your dc!

my ds 3yrs - favourite words/sayings - bumhole
poo poo
poo bum
stinky winky

i tried the ignoring strategy but it wen't on and on and i couldn't bear it any longer ; so i wouldn't let him wear his favourite pj's if he said it more than 3 times a day - he had two nights in boring pj's [he was very cross/upset] ; next night he'd earned his fav's back - so now he's allowed 2 chances - it's definately worked for us
