Carseat or booster for 5 yo you can move cars

Hi,

It's to use in my mum or sisters car for our 5 year old when they visit. What's easy to move? I don't want a fuss with something complicated but want him to be safe.

How tall is he, and how much does he weigh? Could he reliably sit sensibly using an adult seatbelt, or does he still need a harness? How often does he fall asleep in the car?

By law it says 'children must normally use a carseat until they're 12 years old..."

Its also for safety and because they didn't put him in the backseat last time, I don't like him going in front.

Maybe he just needs a booster cushion in the back?

He's 24kg. He doesn't fall asleep in their car.

We just bought a high back booster/car seat from smyths, it just sits on the seat in the car, and you use the normal seat belt. Car seats are thenonly thing that get cheaper the older they get!

Is it isofix? Is that a faff to move for the odd journey?

At 24 kg and 5 years old, you're probably looking at a high back booster – those just use the car's adult seatbelt and are generally pretty lightweight and easy to move between cars. (Some clip in with isofix to hold the seat still when no child is in it, but it's the seatbelt that protects the child.) I think Britax Kidfix, Cybex Solution, BeSafe iZi Flex Fit, and the Joie Trillo and Traver all scored well in ADAC testing, so would be good safe options.

As he's quite young, I'd favour one that has a crotch guard to go between his legs – without one smaller children can slide out from under the seatbelt during a crash.

Nope not isofix, you literally just place it on seat, child sits in it and you do the seat belt as you would normally
