Baby weaning and plates/bowls

Firstborn Dc. She’s a good eater and just turned one. We did blw so she eats herself off her highchair tray. I always serve food to her on a plate or bowl. She always tips food off plate onto a high chair.

id love to know from someone with older Dc whether baby will grow out of this herself and eat off a plate, or whether I should be enforcing this now, or whether I’m being silly for even worrying about it.

If I try and stop her tipping plate up I have to hold plate the whole time and it becomes tug of war.

thanks in advance.

Have you tried a suction plate?

Does she use cutlery at all yet?

I didn’t have a child that tipped or threw food but he does take food off he doesn’t like. I do always tell him if he doesn’t want to eat something to leave it on his plate rather than putting it on the table. He’s 2.5.

I wouldn’t worry too much.

She'll grow out of it. Mine regarded suction plates as a challenge and it was messier than him tipping it off. Its a stage

How old?

I used to just put the food directly on the high chair tray when I could. So, not something like porridge, but even pasta and sauce I'd just put it on directly. That's where it ended up anyway and it stopped a whole bowl being tipped on the floor.

She's now 18 months and doesn't tip things off anymore. She hasn't for a while but I'm not sure when it stopped.

Thanks everyone. She literally just turned one so hopefully still time to grow out of it.

Suction plates she still gets her mits in.

I’ll leave it a little longer and see if she grows out of it.

I don’t like to make a scene about it and then by mistake turn it into something for her to do to attention seek.

She uses a spoon sometimes otherwise fingers.

It's just a phase..cause and effect. Do you have your meals with her? She will soon learn from example

Yes we sit down together at the dining table (baby in high chair). Ok thank you we’ll keep going

I didn't bother with a plate until DC was out of the highchair, so around 2 years maybe. I regarded the high chair tray as a plate tbh.

Thanks makes sense. Yes that’s basically what ends up happening with us :)
