She's been eating uncooked rice from a shaker we made earlier.

Damn! She doesn't look like she's swelling up, should I refuse her any liquid as a precaution?

That'll teach me for trying to be creative with her.

Pleeease tell me she'll remain intact, I don't think she ate much and she's quite a bit bigger than a songbird.

Arrrgh. Shall I call the nhs direct or bomb disposal unit?

is it like giving bicarb of soda to a pigeon?

Twiglett · 11/03/2008 16:19

bicarb to a pigeon ??

she'll be fine ... don't worry

so many funny answers going round in my head hard to pick one

S1ur · 11/03/2008 16:35

FGS she's obsessed just caught her up on the kitchen side trying to half-inch more rice.

why oh why can't she just steal biscuit like a normal child??!!!??

ds ate bird poop before, he's never tried again, and was fine, so I think rice is just the the thing that is getting mummy's attention at the moment!

S1ur · 11/03/2008 16:43

Actually I suspect it is my lack of attention and her frankly bizarre tastes.

My ds has eaten snails. I was less worried about that.

The rice thing, I have images of her swelling up and popping like that sweet little bird in Shrek.

She seems well. She was sat there hand in shaker, rice crunching in mouth and I said. Wait. Freeze. I think that's a bad idea. Hold on.

Then I made my second mistake.

I googled

Shite in a pipe! I should not have done that.

So now I turn to more reasoned sources of nformation.

I thought this was going to be a thread about how much tea your child had eaten!

Novacane · 11/03/2008 16:48

lol @ google

NEVER GOOGLE. NEVER.

captainmummy · 11/03/2008 18:07

rice only expands when it is exposed to heat. Don't let her get too hot!

andiem · 11/03/2008 18:09

just tell her to open her mouth and it will all come out like one of these

dizzydixies · 11/03/2008 18:12

she won't explode but she might fluff up nicely

captainmummy · 11/03/2008 18:13

Snap crackle and Pop!

S1ur · 11/03/2008 19:09

Bugger Captainmummy I've just put her in a nice hot bath....

... arrrrgggghhhhhh!

OP posts:
captainmummy · 11/03/2008 19:36

Got any milk?

S1ur · 11/03/2008 19:38

so you think I should be ready to make rice pudding???!!!??

OP posts:
phlossie · 11/03/2008 20:24

Now I get the exploding thing! Apparantly, if you give bicarb to a pigeon it explodes. Apparantly.
Have you tucked her up in bed nice and snug? You'll hear a 'ping' in the morning and she'll be done!

S1ur · 11/03/2008 20:59

Heh, yeah she's all tucked up.

No Big Bang.

Yet.
