Is this level of loss of appetite normal? 16 month old

My 16 month old has always been a selective eater but normally eats a good quantity of safe foods but for the last week his appetite has gradually got worse. On Monday he vomited in the car but seemed otherwise fine, no temp, no repeated vomiting. Assumed car sick as it was shortly after a big breakfast. No other symptoms of being poorly. But he’s barely eaten since. Couple spoonfuls of Weetabix/porridge for breakfast (normally faves), only half a banana for lunch and refused the rest, then nibble favourite dinner options. Will happily eat dry Cheerios or breadsticks and is asking for breastmilk a lot more than normal.

This morning he had breastmilk and then half an hour later started signing for food and that he wanted to eat. Had 4 small spoonfuls of porridge and a few strawberries and then was done. This is after hardly any dinner last night. He doesn’t have milk overnight anymore either so isn’t filling up on milk at night.

His appetite has only been this bad whilst poorly before but there’s no obvious signs of being sick. I don’t know if he’s teething but his appetite has never been this bad with teeth before.

Is this normal? I’m panicking that we’ve entered a new level of picky eating and really starting to worry about how long this might last. Any reassurance?

I'd give it another week before worrying, since he sound ok really, just not that keen on food for a few days.

If he's feeling poorly he'll be fine on BM and a few bits of his favourite food for a while.

I'd give him a daily vitamin and try him with some Calpol half an hour before his lunch.

Like lljkk says, I'd leave it a week before worrying about it Wink
