So fed up with night poops

LO is 5 months and is still pooping at night. We cosleep and most nights this week I wake up to find it’s seeped out of the nappy and have to wash sheets daily. When do they grow out of night shitting? His sleep is all messed up as well, he’s been going to bed at 9pm and waking at 5am I am so exhausted

I think dirty nappies are not at all uncommon.

Have you tried a different brand/size though to prevent the explosions?

More importantly though - sleeping through 9-5am is amazing! So many babies wouldn't get that much sleep in at that age. Mine started waking every 2-3 hours and that wasn't uncommon at baby group. Others more like every 4. 8 hours solid is fantastic and means you can get 8 hours sleep too!!

@OneMoreStepAlongTheRoadIGo its not 9-5 in a single stretch, there are two wake ups in that time . . . Shattered

Ah yes that's more usual! It is such an exhausting stage. I remember thinking it would never end.

Have you got a partner who is supportive? How are naps going?

We did need to experiment with different brand nappies a bit as all babies are different.

It varies, some are still having dirty nappies over night at 1 but that's quite rare. Certainly as he starts solids there will be less nappy leaks as the poo is not as runny.

Ah yes that's a good point!

It should stop with solids once he gets into a routine (about 8 ish months) but be warned, it may simply move to 4/5am as their digestion starts rumbling away at that point and they often poop. Breastfed babies also poop more.

Babies are such funny things, my toddler was still pooping 4 times a day at that age but I had NCT friends whose babies pooped once every 5 days 🤷‍♀️

Solidarity, I thought the 4-5 month mark was by far the hardest. You’re probably going through the sleep regression which is a kick in the guts as the sleep deprivation is so entrenched as well.
