Nasal flu vaccine and immune compromised contacts

Hi all

My 2yo had the nasal flu vaccine today. My FIL who is immunocompromised (chemo), and we see him at least once a week. The nurse read out the guidance to me and it only said not to have it if you live with some one who is immunocompromised and there was no guidance at all about how long to avoid seeing someone who is immunocompromised but she recommended 2 weeks.

Anyone have any ideas? When my dogs had the kennel cough vaccine (which is also a live vaccine) the vets recommended 6 weeks.

thanks

Why would you not follow the 2 week advice?

Peaplant20 · 08/11/2023 17:11

I’m not not following it, the nurse didn’t seem sure at all, there was nothing in the guidance and I can’t find anything online. I am asking an advice forum if anyone has any further knowledge on the subject from personal experiences.

They need to stay away for 2 weeks. I'm having chemo and this was the medical advice, so my children had to have the injection instead

Sorry to hear you’re going through chemo but thank you for replying that’s really helpful.

As long as he has had his flu jab more than 2 weeks ago he is fine to be around your child.

My middle son is immunocompromised and shares a room with his younger brother and I've had to research and discuss this numerous times. Half the time the nurses don't have a clue.

@crochetmylifeaway ah that’s also really helpful thank you.
