14 month old endless night wakes

Hi, pre starting nursery at 11 months my son slept pretty consistently 7-5. For the last 3 months post starting nursery he has been waking on average 3 times a night. I think he is overtired having gone from 2.5 hours of naps a day to 1 hour, but we can’t do a huge amount about that. And on weekends when he is back to getting solid naps the nights are still awful!

We have previously sleep trained and he is easy to put down for naps and night sleep. But in the night nothing seems to get him back to sleep except milk if he wakes. We have tried going in at timed intervals but he just ramps up and up, we have tried leaving him but after 15mins or so I can’t take it as he just gets more and more upset. Having previously slept through the night without milk he is now getting 200-300mls most nights and if we give him less he just cries. Water substitute doesn’t work either. He’s always been a moderately slim baby and modest eater but regardless of whether he has a big or small dinner- the overnight results are the same.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I’m so very tired! X

Have you tried an earlier bed time?

We’re experiencing something similar with our 16 month old but I don’t have any answers as we’re still struggling and I’m exhausted. I put the wake ups down to teething and coughs and colds mostly so I’m not sure what we can do about it. She only had 4 teeth when starting nursery and now has about 12 with another 4 still coming so I think that’s a big part of the problem for us. The canines and first molars have just been taking forever and seen really painful. I really hope we have some relief soon.

Could he be comfort feeding? My daughter went from 5 Oz overnight to 20oz around that age due to her reflux returning and the feeding provided comfort but also more reflux in a very vicious cycle. She acted like an addict jonesing for the bottle the guzzling it. We had to be really strict with the volumes which was just awful but we did manage to get her down to 2oz which she stayed at until recently aged 3
