Is this Growing Pains?

My almost 12yo son has been in 'terrible' pain Thurs Fri last week and today that's stopped him going to school. In his thighs and calves he describes it at as 12/10 on the scale of pain but won't take painkillers (I know!)

Just wondered if anyone could describe their kid's growing pains... so I could see if it sounds familiar

Sounds familiar from DD, though not the level of pain. I think I'd try "take the pain killers and if it's still really bad, then we'll talk about not going to school".
