Should I be worried or not?

DD is 8 and a half months, she has been sitting independently since about 5 months and is pretty content on my knee most of the time. She hates lying down and tummy time so hasn't progressed far in her gross motor skills. Should I be worried she isn't crawling or really moving about? She is smiley, feeding well, clapping, good eye contact etc when should I raise this as a concern?

Speak to your health visitor if you're concerned - but neither of my two moved much at that age. They were both quite content to watch the world go by them, without feeling any need to try to explore it Halloween Grin

They both got there in the end, and gross motor skills seem fine.

I know babies who haven't crawled until 11months. They all get there in their own time, believe me she'll move when she's ready to and then you'll be pulling your hair out because you need eyes in the back of your head when they're mobile 🤣

Hi! My DD sat from 5 months. Crawled the day she turned 9 months. But I know later then this is still normal. Signs for crawling are lunging forward. And going on all 4s and rocking back and forth. Try putting toys a bit out of reach so they lean forward. This helps them strengthen too x

Personally I wouldn't worry about it. I hardly did tummy time with my DD and I was worried of her learning to crawl and walk but she did learn at her own time. Average age for crawling is 7-10 months so yours still has time.

I wouldn't worry babies are all so different. My first was exactly like yours and she's still very content now at 4 just sitting relaxing and watching the world go by. My second who is 7 months is the complete opposite and isn't happy unless she's upright or rolling around on the floor, she's pulling herself up on furniture and trying to crawl already which my first didn't even attempt until 10/11 months. As long as you've no other concerns I wouldn't worry, just enjoy this time where she's happy to sit with you!

Doesn't sound like there is anything to worry about yet, lots of them are not moving around at that stage. Enjoy having a non-mobile baby while it lasts! You'll have the health visitor checkup in a few months and be able to raise any concerns then as well. My DD also hated tummy time and still shows no interest in learning to crawl at 16 months. She finally started bum shuffling at 13-14 months and seems perfectly happy for now. I have spoken to the health visitor a few times but they don't think there is anything to be concerned about.
