Reflux query

Hi,

I have a 4 week old and he’s been on aptamil since day 1, over the last 2 weeks he’s become incredibly gassy and he’s constantly pooping and they smell so bad (sorry TMI!!) he’s also become very unsettled in the day between feeds as if he just wants to feed all the time he’s on 5oz every 3/3.5 hours so definitely isn’t hungry!!

Does this sound like reflux or colic? Do I switch formula?

thanks

What are his poo’s like? Colour and texture? Is he vomiting at all? How is he during the night?

My LO is 17 weeks and just been diagnosed with CMPA (not that I am suggesting for a minute it’s that straight away off your post) he was BF for a month but had to switch to formula. He was vomiting terribly on aptamil advance so we put him on reflux and he was pooing during every feed and had awful trapped wind that kept him awake. Worked our way through milks down the ladder I guess from comfort to lactose free and now prescription.

@Thelazygardener hes going every 2/3 days so hasn’t been since Thursday evening 😫 and they are really runny and I’d say like chicken korma colour 🙈 sorry!! He actually settles well during the night after his feeds it’s the day where he’s unsettled….

He also vomits a fair bit on aptamil but I don’t know if the amount is normal also? It’s quite watery too.

How is your son now? I don’t know if to ring the GP a on Monday or try a different formula first…

His nappies sound quite normal so it does sound like reflux could be the issue?

I know each baby is different but drinking 5oz that often and wanting to feed more in between is quite a lot for 4 weeks (only compared to mine who drinks the same as that now at 18 weeks tomorrow) he has 5/6 oz if I’m lucky every 4 hours.

if it is acid reflux your LO may be wanting to drink all the time not through hunger but to try and neutralise the acid. My LO had reflux and it was clear sick and came anything up to 3 hours after a feed. We switched him to aptamil anti reflux milk at 4 weeks and he did keep his feeds down and it helped with the reflux. He did have awful wind on it but it’s likely that was due to his intolerances.

You could try aptamil anti reflux for a week or so?
