Help slowing down a fast eater (3yo)

(Just turned) 3yo DS is an absolutely fantastic eater. However, he eats ridiculously fast. We sit at the table as a family at meal times and DH and I will genuinely be 3/4 mouthfuls into our dinner and DS is declaring that he’s finished and needs more 😳

Hes eating so quickly that he’s not even having a chance to see how full he is. As soon as it’s finished he’s saying that he’s still hungry etc. I’m struggling to know when he actually is hungry. He’s the same with all meals and snacks through the day and I just have no idea how to get him to take his time with food. It’s not as if he’s desperate to be finished and get down from the table and play with his toys, he just wants more food.

Im only concerned as his weight is creeping up on the centile charts compared to what it should be and I know that I’m struggling with when to give him more and when to restrict him. Any tips would be appreciated.

Incase any of it is relevant: he eats everything and anything, we eat as a family as much as possible and all eat the same thing, all meals/snacks are at the table unless we’re out, he doesn’t get much in the way of sugary snacks - the odd ice cream dessert if we’re out for a meal or whatever but not really at home, no screens etc with meals.
