Talk to me about bedtimes!

  1. What times do your year 6 and year 8 DC go to bed
  2. What time are they actually asleep (as in, how long does it take from start to finish)?
  3. What time do you, the parent, turn your own lights out for bed?

The reason I ask is my sleep hygiene is terrible. I need to break my bad habits, but I'm finding it very difficult because I'm spending a lot of time setting and DC doing nighttime routines that bleed into my own sleep so I wondered what everybody else is doing out there. Surely I can't be the only one!

My 2 (aged 10 and 4) have been like this for the past couple of years:

Into bed at 7.30.

We have a quick chat about the day, hugs and kisses and I leave the room about 2 mins later, so 7.32.

Youngest falls asleep within minutes.

Eldest will read quietly and then falls asleep in his own time. (I would say he's asleep by 8 the majority of the time).

I'm heading to my own bed to watch TV between 9&10, I'll go to sleep between 10 and 11. I get up at 6 or 6.30 every day.

Oh wow. That is so enviably healthy! I did once have such a routine but it all went out the window and is hard to rein back in.

Thanks, this is helpful
