Periods after baby/breastfeeding

I thought my period had returned beginning of September, when my EBF baby turned 7 months old. Still feed in the night anywhere between 1-3 times but I thought as age had cut down this was why it returned. It was very similar to before, heavy and lasted same no of days. But I've had nothing since, keep getting cramps and really expecting it but then nothing. I take it it's normal for things to not be regular after a baby and maybe especially so with bf?

I had one random period when EBF DD was about 4 months. She's 9 months now and I've had nothing since!

I had one at 7 months, then skipped month 8. Month 9 was right on time, oddly enough.

Irregular is pretty common

Mine took 14 months to come back but I wasn't fertile for until 3 years after DD1. Had to completely stop bf to conceive again.

That's interesting thank you! I guess things are just working themselves out and reassuring to see irregular is normal

I have had months of (episodes of) extremely painful cramps before an actual period showed up, after stopping breastfeeding. It can take a while.

Having said that, if another pregnancy so soon would be catastrophic, take steps to avoid! Conception in such circumstances is not impossible.

My period came back around 12 months. It was preceded by two days of awful abdominal pain. It was so bad that I couldn't sleep. I ended up seeing an out of hours (male) doctor who, after doing various tests, politely informed me it was probably my period returning. He was right, I was very embarrased. The pain was similiar to the middle stage of labour. I think this is unusual though. I haven't heard other women describing it as a thing 🤔
