Just curious what is normal/average for a mum who works part time and has young children?

Sexism is always a problem. I'd argue that it hurts society and can most definitely hurt people, especially if children are raised with those opinions.

It's not sexism if she chooses this lifestyle

You're suggesting that, because she's a woman, she should work. Therefore you're assigning a role to her because of her sex. That's sexism. Feminism is freedom to choose.

You're also suggesting that looking after children is somehow less important. That's patronising, sexist and totally untrue.

That isn't how sexism works.

I'm not suggesting that at all.

It's sexist to claim that only mothers can do it.

She didn't suggest that. She was talking about her family and what makes her happy

Feminism is no longer about choice? Then count me out

Which doesn't make the comment she made any less sexist.

I have a 6 month old and a 4 year old - working 3 days a week - 22.5 hours and I take home about £1260 a month - then I pay a load in childcare 🙄

G5000 · 06/11/2023 16:14

Of course it's sexist to declare that if a man takes care of his own children then that turns him into a wife/mom.

She personally finds stay at home dads unattractive and unmanly 🤷‍♂️ who cares

Anyone who cares about sexism, I imagine.

37.5hrs, £4.5k take home per month, 2 small kids

Puppalicious · 06/11/2023 18:41

It is wildly sexist to think that if a man contributes to childcare and housework that actually makes him a woman (indicating doing that defines what a woman is). I earn a high wage, detest and am shit at housework and jointly “lead” my household - does that mean I’m a man? Also it wasn’t saying that SAHDs are unmanly, it was that if a man contributes at all to taking care of children and home that makes him a woman…if you can’t see how damaging such views can be, I’ve no hope for you. If she has sons, I pity their future partners!
