Baby won’t nap in the day

My three month old baby is continuously fighting sleep and napping in the day. I have tried everything. She won’t take a dummy and hasn’t seemed fussed with a comfy that smells like me. She will only sleep for short periods either on me or in the car but this is usually only for around half an hour at a time. We usually have a crying fit before each sleep too. I have read that she is likely overtired and overstimulated but have tried to stick to wake windows and taking tired cues from her but we are still in the same situation. Has anyone else experienced anything similar and found any solutions? She sleeps like a dream at night but the evenings are a nightmare because she is so tired by then and I think she just passes out from exhaustion (along with me)…..

Hi op, totally normal my son was like that. There were time I had to put him in a sling on me. Do you have a bouncer?

ReggieSt1 · 30/10/2023 11:26

Yes we have had limited success with a sling but she stills tends to scream for a period before sometimes giving in and sleeping for a bit. She never falls asleep in her bouncer so far. It’s just very tiring and I am completely jealous of people who seem to be able to put their babies down to nap no issue in the day. Good to hear I’m not the only one with a baby like this though. Thank you

Both of mine were like this - only napped in a sling for 30-45 mins after at least 5-10mins of crying each time until around 5 months, then would fall asleep in bed and sleep longer but only if breastfed to sleep. Started to get better around the 8/9 month mark with more falling asleep independently! Hang in there!

Mine would only nap on me in the day.

And cried a lot while being rocked to sleep… but would eventually fall asleep. And then I just had to stay on the sofa and not move.

When he stirred I’d try to do some gentle shushing and rocking in the hope that he’d carry on sleeping.

Up to 5 months my daughter only slept on me
Then she slept on me or preferably slept if I walked outside in the pram. She knew the time I tried to walk her in the garage to avoid a thunderstorm

If we tried to move her she woke up, if I stopped walking she woke up even if it was just. To tie my shoes

My niece slept most places but never for more than 40 minutes

All babies have their sleeping quirks it's just trying to decode your babies quirks!
