When to carry out building work with baby / toddler around?

Hi all, our baby boy is two and a half months old now, and we want to build a rear ground floor extension and reconfigure the ground floor so we can have a bigger kitchen and add a downstairs toilet. We are first time parents, so not sure when is a better time to carry out the work, when he is still mostly at home before going to the nursery at perhaps 1 year old? Or when he goes to the nursery full time? Also a bit worried about the pollution impact on him from the building / decorating materials.

Any advice and experience would be much appreciated!

We have done full renovations between 6months-3 years of various sizes. I would
say earlier is better.
It was a right pain some days, but at 6-12 monthsr i could take Ds for long walk for him to nap in pram, now he won’t nap and wants to have space to run around indoors.

Also younger was easier as I just used travel cot in whatever room became our temporary bedroom whilst main bedrooms trashed. And he was easy to feed without main kitchen as happy with baby porridge and a banana. And just had one basket of baby toys to move around.
