Anyone else's child not a cuddler?

Ds 9 has never been one to sit and cuddle or hug.Id love that physical close feeling with him but if that's the way it is it should be up to him.
He says I love you to me and dh several times a day and we get a kiss goodnight.
Hes been like this forever.Anyone relate?

My child is autistic so we've never had hugs etc as they don't like that physical touch.I see them give me affection in different ways. Like saving me all the green jelly babies, or them wanting to tell me all about their special interest or most recently them giving me their comfort blanket when I wasn't well.

I would love to grab them into a tight hug and kiss their cheeks. But I'll settle for my jelly babies x

Ds is NT but he just like people being his personal space I suppose

Yes, I didn’t realise how untactile DD was until DS came along.

I'd love to snuggle him as he is my child lol.

DD is like this and always has been. It's hard not to take it personally , but I know it's just her.

RedCoffeeCup · 29/10/2023 22:14

My DS1 is like this too. DS2 is the complete opposite!

elliejjtiny · 29/10/2023 22:19

My ds2 is autistic and hates being touched. One of my worst memories of him is when Dh was in resus with him (I wasn't allowed in because of lockdown) and the drs were all over him trying to get a cannula in and heart monitors etc like they do in casualty and ds was screaming and thrashing around because he couldn't stand being touched. I wasn't even there but I can still imagine the screaming.

DD17 is autistic and I couldn't tell you when I last hugged her. We're talking pre toddler. If she's upset and you would naturally approach her for a cuddle, she's already on it "don't you dare". DS14 on the other hand, will still climb into my bed for a cuddle and a chat.

ColleenDonaghy · 29/10/2023 22:28

Yes I have one that's a cuddler and one that really isn't.

I'd love more hugs from her, but she doesn't want them and that's fine. When she does want one DH and I both really savour it!

Me. I'm 35 and my mum rarely gets a cuddle which she hates and doesn't understand. Being physically touched makes me squirm and feel wrong. I had years as a kid of having to give cuddles as "I'm your mum and I want a cuddle so give me one" A will and do cuddle but it has to be on my terms.

DustyLee123 · 06/05/2024 10:27

Yes I miss cuddles. DS left from visiting yesterday and just walked away, but I really wanted a hug as I don’t know how long it will be until I see him again.
