What did you get right as a parent?

I have a young family just now and I would love to gain some wisdom from anyone a bit further along in their parenting journey. If you have older children who are basically good, kind people, who get on with you and (if applicable) with one another, is there anything that you did that you believe has helped them to develop these characteristics? I'm really interested in learning from you all because I don't have a large, close knit extended family with lots of insight to share with me. Thank you

@wingardiumleviosar I know this is old but it was under a thread I was reading. Mine are 17 and 18 and they’re good and kind. You can only lead by example and hope for the best. It’s not rocket science. Show patience- to them and others. Take an interest in what makes them happy and sad. Explain things to them as little people who matter. Apologise when you get it wrong. Let them know you still love them when they get it wrong. Try to learn something when things go wrong. Give them the means to understand the world around them.

I hope other people join in this thread, it’s a lovely thing to ask.
