Best nappy cream for girls - red down there

NewMumQuestions · 29/10/2023 09:03

My baby is a little bit red on her vulva. I've tried Weleda Calendula and it hasn't done much. Baby isn't in pain but it is red down there. I think I've learnt now that I have to apply a barrier cream before the redness appears.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Sudocrem is brilliant for every day. Metanium when it’s red and sore

MinnieL · 29/10/2023 10:19

Vaseline or sudocrem is best for everyday use. No recommendations on how to solve the redness but it seems like other posters have helped you out on that already!

Some time with no nappy on will help, give her 10 mins on the changing mat.

Riverbananacarrot · 29/10/2023 10:33

Another vote for metanium. But be warned it's very messy.

I would also wash her nappy area during each nappy change with warm water and dry with a soft cloth until it goes away.

AutumnFroglets · 29/10/2023 10:39

Wash gently with warm water and cottonwool.
Leave nappy off for 10-20 minutes.
Use sudocream before putting nappy back on.
Bin the wipes, they will cause her pain if her skin is broken/rash.

I bath her everyday or every other day and the days I don't I'll dab her with cotton pads at the start and end of the day. I use water wipes during the day for nappy changes. Usually give her 5 mins nappy free time but might give her more from now on!

Do you put anything in her baths or just plain water? Some girls react very badly to anything added to water, eg bubble bath.

I am assuming water wipes still feel rougher than soft cotton wool on sore areas but I don't actually know.

The redness is a reaction to urine so you need plenty of water to dilute it/wash it off. I've never used water wipes but are they just damp or actually have drips if you screw them up? You need to wash, not wipe., it's totally different.

Flowermoon90 · 29/10/2023 16:48

Sudocream wors well. Also creams which have urea in their ingredients.

Guiltypleasures001 · 29/10/2023 16:51

I put a little squirt of that Aveeno bath stuff in her bath. I usually bath her every morning. I use water wipes whenever I change her nappy. Hopefully the Metanium works and I'll let her have more nappy free time (currently it's 5 mins each change but I'll extend this). Thanks everyone!

Metanium is miraculous.

Plumful · 29/10/2023 17:38

Don’t use wipes at the moment. Warm water and cotton pads. And yellow metanium

rainbowsparkle28 · 29/10/2023 17:38

As others have said Sudocrem for nappy changes to help protect from redness (barrier cream) and Metanium if there ever is any to help clear it up.

TwistofFate · 30/10/2023 08:24

Sudocrem for changes during the day, and we found Bepanthem created a barrier overnight that gave the area a chance to heal.

pumpykins · 30/10/2023 08:24

Canestan nappy cream

Ask for it by brand name in boots

pumpykins · 30/10/2023 08:25

If metanium doesn't work first

BritishDesiGirl · 30/10/2023 08:28

Use warm water and cotton wool to clean 1 week sudocrem and if it doesn't go away , 1 week of Metanium.
