Taking down wind

karly85 · 27/10/2023 21:00

Hi
my LO is 12 weeks old, and takes down a lot of wind/air with his bottles
I hear it go down into his belly and gargle!
he’s now bringing his wind up like a champ
I burp his halfway through and he will bring up a big burp then again at the end
my question is is it normal for them to take down that much wind? And at 3 months??
do I need to change his bottles?
he’s on MAM anti colic bottles

thanks in advance

I think as long as he is bringing up the wind and it isn’t causing discomfort you’re probably ok to stick with MaM bottles.

My LO had a tongue tie and revision and never quite got on with Mam bottles, he swallowed lots of air but struggled to get it up so ended up really uncomfortable.I use Dr browns narrow neck bottles now, it’s the only bottle I’ve found he can latch onto as the teat is really long. He’s been on them for 4 weeks and is 4 months now.

Could they have Tongue Tie?

Could they have Tongue Tie?

I did mention it to the doctor at his 8 week check, and he was so disinterested, but when he was checking him over, he was really crying and he said to put your mind at rest there's definitely no tongue tie, and I could also see there wasn't any tie xx

I just feel bad when I can hear it going down, how do you get on with the dc brown bottles? I hear they leak??

Unfortunately Doctors aren't trained to spot TT and it's unlikely you would be able to either, unless you're a Tongue Tie Practitioner? Wink

Does he have any of the symptoms in the link I posted earlier?

This happened all the time with mine. I put him on a faster flow teat and it was much better

Ah right! I just thought because I couldn't see that piece of skin that normally connects the tongue that he was fine, he used to click on the bottle but no so much anymore ☺️

He's on teat 1 and finished a 6oz bottle on that one
I did try and put him on teat 2 last week, he seemed a little less comfortable on those
So put him back on 1

@karly85 i love them. I haven’t had any leaks at all but my MAM bottles leaked all the time! How weird.

I can still hear the milk dropping into my LOs belly. He started to go fussy with his bottle last few weeks, pushing it away after 4oz and a bit sicky so I’ve added a touch of carobel to his bottles today to help with the reflux and the milk isn’t so sloshy if that makes sense and he did take 6oz so fingers crossed!

Hopefully, finger crossed for you,
Im almost sure my LO has a touch of silent reflux
He's really fussy after his bottles, unsettled, even though as I've said he brings up his wind fine!

He also gets quit a lot of hiccups too
Poor thing

But he loves the milk he's on, so im hesitant to change it

@karly85 awww mine used to hiccup continuously! Maybe give the carobel thickener a go. Avoids having to change milk and may help with some of the reflux symptoms. I think it’s about a fiver for a box. Would probably have to use the number 2 teat though. I had to use that from 4 weeks old when my LO was having reflux milk in Mam bottles.
