Am I being unreasonable school photos

So DS is in reception, his school have an Instagram and FB page which they regularly use to post pictures and updates on. Since starting there have been several posts on reception as well as whole school posts yet my DSs photo is never there. They posted about 30 photos of the reception children out playing and DS wasn't there. Today they've posted a big assembly post with the kids in their Halloween costumes, it seems nearly every child has a picture either on their own or in a group except my DS. I know I'm probably being unreasonable but just annoying me. Last year in nursery they posted about 100 photos of sports day and my DS was not in any despite winning his race. Obviously I can't be there to take photos of him in school so just frustrated I guess as we won't have many photos of him in school to look back on when he is older

I think YABU. I doubt they've done this on purpose!

Labradoodlie · 27/10/2023 19:14

We had this with DD, then realised we’d accidentally ticked a box saying by we didn’t want her to be in any photos. We didn’t want them used externally, but hadn’t realised we’d also ticked the ‘internal use’ one. Worth checking you’ve noticed done the same!

SpamIAm · 27/10/2023 19:17

Similarly, I was going to ask if you've actually given permission for them to use photos of your child.

School office here. Double check that you didn't click no photos on the admission form, that's the most common reason for this. Or he had the bad luck to be always standing next to someone else who can't have photos published. Give the school a call and they'll make a note. They won't be leaving him out on purpose I promise.

Junebugbaby · 27/10/2023 19:55

Thanks, but will I not sound a bit pushy if I ring up and say he's not in any photos and to ask them to check? I definitely allowed photography so I guess it could have been an admin error, if it happens again I'll maybe ring to check thanks

You have no idea of the weird things we get asked, you don't even come close 😉. Just drop them a casual email and ask them to check his photo permissions. They really won't mind.

This happened to us. In a PFB moment I must have ticked all the boxes refusing all permissions. A few weeks later I realised that we never saw any photos of DC with his school friends and that actually I would have quite liked to see some.

An email to school to check the permissions sorted it out.

You might also have had a separate social media permission section, we have this at both DC school and where I work.

Alternatively you could have a child that avoids the camera! Out of my 2 DCs I have one camera seeker who is often in photos and one camera avoider who is never in anything unless she's been caught in the background.

smartiesneberhadtheanswer · 28/10/2023 19:39

Count your blessings he isn't plastered all over their social media, school are generally very bad at restricting access to the right ppl.

Superscientist · 28/10/2023 20:09

I would just ask if you can get the form of allow their photos to be included and see what you get in response. If they come back with they are you can bring up the lack of photos so you thought you must have forgotten to send the form back

This. Just check first. Even if you didnt, it alerts them to your child being consistently missed out.

i take photos at school but i have children all the time who have permission for parents but who will not give permission themselves.

i accidentally ticked the box to say my nephew was a LAC when i was applying for his school place! That phone call from the council was embarrassing but they said mistakes are common.

PotOfPlenty · 29/10/2023 14:22

Wild guess, you did not check the "I am okay with photos on socials" box.

Onemoretimeok · 29/10/2023 14:28

My child hardly ever makes it on to the school fb page. But I know that they aren’t the type of child to come running when the camera comes out. I know a few who are and they are in virtually every photo! 😁My child is an introvert, and is friends
with introverts, so I tend to assume that they are hiding in the bushes pretending to be a hedgehog, while other kids are posing on the climbing frame.

Possibly though I really don't think I did but easiest thing is to check with the school office, especially before the Christmas photos are up

Mention it in passing to his teacher. "Hi miss/mrs/mr XYZ, just a quick one, is everything okay at school with little junebugbaby, is he making friends okay? Just noticed he doesnt seem to appear in photos of activities?"

Junebugbaby · 29/10/2023 20:02

We had the parent/teacher meeting last week before the pictures were posted and discussed friendships etc and no issues came up. Think sho admin would be easier to check with, I'm assuming they have it all on file

OP posts:
Rockbird · 31/10/2023 02:02

Yes it's all on file. Separate tick boxes for website and social media, school display, local media etc.

Somewhereovertherainbowweighapie · 31/10/2023 02:10

Could you have accidentally ticked a box on a form saying he can’t have photos on social media?
