So my little boy just turned one last week and ended up getting norovirus! He was sick all Sunday night and abit on Monday but he recovered from the sickness fairly quickly. He’s also teething and I can see his top two teeth starting to come through.
Since Monday he’s hardly eating ANYTHING! And won’t drink his milk but we’re trying to keep him hydrated with sips of water often.

he won’t even eat any of favourite food, not even fruit and yoghurt! I’m at a loss! This has been going on for 5 days now.

he’s always been a low weight baby so I’m feeling really anxious. He’s otherwise alert, happy and playing.

anyone been in the same boat and able to tell me how long this lasts for? It’s driving me insane!

@SassyPants87 I’m going through this atm. How long did it take your little one to recover and regain his appetite? X

SassyPants87 · 10/11/2023 23:55

@poppet131 so he stopped eating completely for about a week and then starting to eat little bits but he didn’t really regain much of an appetite until 2 weeks after he got the bug. Hang on in there just offer plenty of water x

Will he eat chocolate etc.? If he will, give it to him. I spoke to a doctor friend when DD was the same and he said give him anything he fancies, literally anything. If they want it, give it. Raising his blood sugar, energy will help stimulate their appetite.

He will eat cereal, fruit and a little bit of toast but is mainly throwing or refusing his main lunch time or dinner. It’s so frustrating! Is your little one completely back to normal with his food now @SassyPants87? x

Have a look at Solid Starts website. It includes a page on getting babies to eat again after sickness. Solid Starts is a website (and Instagram) set up by a group of baby weaning experts, pediatricians, dieticians, feeding therapists etc. A great resource.

My lo just cut his 4th tooth at 13mo and wouldn't eat for days. A couple of spoons of yoghurt or pureed stuff but that's it. He did drink alot of milk though so try milk if possible and water if he won't even take that

@poppet131 sounds just like my little one. He started off wanting a bit of breakfast but would refuse lunch and dinner. His appetite has gone back to normal now and he even has a few days where he ate A LOT! It’s really worrying and anxiety inducing but his appetite will pick up. My boy was quite bad and lost a lot of weight, he was tiny to begin with! But he’s put it all back on now x

@SassyPants87 Thanks, that’s so reassuring. It’s really tough seeing him poorly and teething and when he doesn’t eat, I worry that it’s going to be the start of fussy eating! I think weighing him will make me more anxious so im hoping that his appetite (and weight!) will bounce back once he’s fully recovered and his teeth are through! X
