So my in laws never visit our children at our home when ever they see them it’s always us that takes the children to them. It was sons first birthday today we planned to spend the day just the 4 of us booked a soft play and went for some food had a lovely day. In laws rang at 7 o’clock tonight to have a go because we didn’t take my son over to see them to collect his birthday present off them. We did say that we were going to be in all morning and they were more than welcome to come over before we went out but they never took us up on that offer just decided to wait until tonight to try and make us feel guilty. Are we in the wrong for not just going to see them?

It doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong at all.

Hopefully your partner reminded them that they were invited to come over in the morning but didn’t. Hopefully they stand up to them.

You did nothing wrong

Never ceases to amaze me how demanding some grandparents are - unless they are physically unable to travel to yours then they need to be more active
Stand your ground as you have this dynamic for the next 20 years - and then they will wonder why the grandkids don’t travel to see them.
When you have children the dynamics of the family change - they have been parents, now they are grandparents and need to be more flexible and active
