Very worried

Hi all

I don’t have many people to talk to in real life and I just need someone to listen and give me some advice.

I have 3 children, my youngest is nearly 9 months and I am very worried about his eye contact when being held, when sitting across the room or at a distance, in his pram, the high chair etc he has good (ish) eye contact being held he really doesn’t make much at all and I’m worried it’s a sign of autism, I know it’s not a death sentence but I am on my own most of the time (partner works long hours no other family support) and I just don’t know how I’ll cope if he has something going on.

He can crawl army style, roll, sit unaided, seems to have great skills when it comes to holding toys etc and definitely is engaging with his brother and sister (laughs at them etc) he also responds to his name and reaches out to be picked up but the eye contact really worries me and I don’t know what to do. I feel like I’m spiralling on it if I’m honest and just needed somewhere to post my concerns.

thanks for reading

Is it worth contacting your health visitor for some support? Maybe even a sight test to start. I know some children with visual problems don't look like they're making eye contact because they're using their peripheral vision instead.

If he engages with his siblings I would get his eyes checked.

I've got my little, 10.5mnths,bery briefly eye contact, raised a concern for pediatrician, so since 6mnths he put us on spectrum for wait&see scenario. Currently we going to Moorfields next month for eye appointment with pediatric ophthalmologist to see if there's vision problems, and hearing test will run straight after.
