My 17 month old child has started smacking me; I have said "No" and set him down and moved away for a few moments. He shows no reaction to either. Any ideas on why he is doing this or suggestions on how to ride this new phase?

I think most 17 month olds go through this. They dont realise it hurts so they are not really being naughty. You have to keep saying no and bring his hand gently down but firmly say NO..it worked eventually with my DS.

Thanks I will keep at it...

As babyinarms says, the important thing is to realise that they are far too young to have any empathy, or to understand that the other person can get hurt in the same way that they can. Just keep to the procedure she outlines- and don't take it personally.
