Feel like I’m failing

Just had a nursery parents evening for DS, he’s 2 just after Christmas

we know speech he could be saying more words. He tends to use same babble words/sounds for different things. We all know his understanding is amazing even if we’re specific e.g. “can you give mummy your toothbrush?” And so on , he can follow instructions (when he wants as he is a toddler haha!)

His key worker did mention if he’s not interested in a task he will just walk away so she’s going to focus on attention with him

i did feel this was normal for his age) and isn’t it? To only do what he wants to do. He is quite stubborn character wise I’d say but I thought that’s age too as they start getting a sense of self and want to be in control

I don’t know I just feel like I’m failing so much I am doing all the tips and tricks they give me and his speech isn’t getting to words and sentences and I’m so scared for his 2 year Hv check and worried they’ll just say he’s behind

i try so hard and always see how I can help
his development and I just feel like I’m failing

Very similar here... my son is due to turn 2 at the end of this year and doesn't talk much at all. He has maybe 10 single words he uses often but the vast majority of the time just points and goes "dih" he similarly knows loads of words that he can't say as he will get things you mention or point them out. I also see him walk away and not take people on at the toddler groups we go to if he's not interested. I think it's all normal but he is my first so I have nothing to compare with. I do believe he's a slow talker but I think some just can be and they will get there?

Honestly, in your situation, I would have told the key worker, "good luck!" If anyone knows how to get a not-even-two-year-old to focus on a task, she should be finding a book or TV show deal, not going to a normal job!

I don't see any problems here at all, and not in @mumsince2021's post either. The speech development in both children sounds completely normal too.

Boys do often start talking coherently later but I don't even see that anything is happening later here. You're both doing fine.
