HELP! This is NOT going well! Need help with training...

Right DS is 3.3

We started potty training at 2.10 but he got that awful virus and had to wear a nappy because everything went through hima nd he lost his confidence for a while.

We started again on monday, a real die hard - thats it no nappies in the day no sort of thing. Last time I put nappies on when we went outside, this time non at all.

He has his own loo downstairs with a step, his own handtowel, ect. Star chart and he loves it.

Now If I say every 3 minutes 'Do you wnat a wee or poo' then we are fine.

He uses the toilet fantastically.

But he will not tell me if he needs the toilet. He just wets himself. Or waits for me to ask.

I took him to the wacky warehouse and dinner yesterday. I was a bit out of it coz Im ill though. I ask him if he needed the loo when we arrive in the play area, he says yes.

Uses the loo, washes his hands ect.

We go next door for luch, ask his 3 time throughout if he needed the loo. he says 'no'

We go back to the soft play after lunch and he had wet himself.

I dont make a big deal, just say 'oh we have had an accident, lets change your pants'

I asked him whilst we were in the loo if he needed to go again, he said no.

After about 15 mins of playing in the wacky i see him straining. He is pooping.

So I change him again telling him if he needs to poop he has to tell mummy.

This morning he has wee'd twice on the toilet after me asking him if he needed to wee.

But he has just poo'd his pants again.

How do I get him to tell me he needs the toilet?

have you got some sort of reward thing going on?
a star or sticker for every wee/poo in the toilet?

Disenchanted · 08/03/2008 12:59

Yup,

he gets a star when hes been to the loo, 2 stars for a poop.

He loves that but it doesnt seem to make him want to tell me he needs to go himself.

Do you think he actually knows himself that he needs the loo? It sounds as if he may not really recognise the signs that he needs to go.

Hmm I dont know.

Hes starting nursery in 6 weeks so need to sort it out.

He must know because when i ASK him he says yes or no, and when he says yes he wees straight away on the loo, so he must feel it there.

A positive! Last night DHG put DSs nappy on for bed and after a bit he said 'Mummy I want to poo!! On my big boy toilet'

DH said 'youve got a nappy on'

But I said 'No, come on quick.. what a big boy 'ect and he was pissing as i took the nappy off but managed to get him on the loo to do half of the wee.

So was very pleased!

Hopefully he will do the same today in his undies and not just when hes got his nappy on last thing at night.

BTW when do you start trying to get them dry at night?

Im not going to attempt it anytime soon obviously, but just curious!

Oh yes thats what I wanted to ask too,

do you think he actully knows the difference of the feeling? Because he said he wanted a poo but did a wee!

Or do you think he just got confused because he was asking suddenly?

He did do a poo later in the night in his napppy though.
