DS taking off trousers and nappies to pee on the floor. Sibling rivalry or ready for potty training?

Well, that's it really. He's 2.8, DD is 8 mo and I know he's not hugely keen on her. He's done a wee on the floor twice this week and I'm not sure what to make of it. Usually his bids for attention involve some kind of pain for DD! I'm not anxious to start potty training because 1) he's not keen on change at the best of times 2) we're probably moving next month and 3) am haunted by another child's yucky pooey accident on the way to soft play... But if he's ready then perhaps I should just bite the bullet?

Hi Corrie, he may be showing you that he is ready, have you tried putting pants on him? My dd2 was the same age and she surprised us by becoming dry day andnight within a week.

I guess I'm anxious that if he isn't ready (and he is still a potty and loo refuser) then I'll have put him in pants only for him to become a nappy refuser, and will simply wee and poo in his pants - the extra attention that would ensue from this would no doubt be a bonus!

When your DD2 did it, had she started weeing on the floor too? And did she have any other signs?

He sounds ready. If the weeing on the floor is a bid for attention, then you need to make sure weeing on the potty gets him lots of attention and probably chocolate rewards.

If he wees in pants (deliberately) then change him but with no or little eye contact and talking, i.e. less attention than for weeing in potty.

Good luck. It may not be as bad as you think - I was dreading potty training dd and it turned out to be straightforward.

Well, we have the pants, but I think I'll invest in a little seat for the loo. And some choccie buttons. Quite a lot of them. Thanks for the input.
