Tell me your routine...

For your 8/9 month old baby please?

DS2 will be 9 months old at the end of October and our current routine just isn't working anymore in terms of sleep. I know I need to tweak things slightly and he's probably going to need to drop that last cat nap.

Would love to hear other people's ideas for a decent routine so I can have some food for thought!

Thank you in advance.

Wake 730

Nap 930/10ish for 30 mins

Nap at 1/2ish until 3ish

Bed at 730/8

Although that's a good day lol

FebMama · 17/10/2023 13:37

@Lammveg thank you for responding! How does your LO sleep overnight?

Lammveg · 17/10/2023 20:08

She's always been a terrible sleeper as in I haven't noticed any sleep regressions because she's always woken up so many times overnight lol. She's been much better the last few weeks, but still wakes an average of 4 times overnight but settles quickly after BF.

How is your DS sleep at the minute?

Get the huckleberry app…it was a life saver for me!

violetcuriosity · 17/10/2023 21:37

8m old now formula fed on 4 6oz bottles a day and 3 meals BLW.

6sh- wake up & bottle
8sh- breakfast
9:30-11sh- bottle and nap
12sh- lunch
2:30-4sh- bottle and nap
6:30- bath, bottle, bed

Usually sleeps through but the 4m sleep regression did hit hard so, I won't be surprised if it all changes again.

violetcuriosity · 17/10/2023 21:38

Meant to say 5sh is dinner, she sits and eats with us all.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 17/10/2023 22:14

We found the 2, 3, 4 pattern of wake windows worked well once DD swapped to 2 naps. Something like:

Wake at 7:30. Bottle.
breakfast 8:30
Nap 9:30-10:30 then bottle.
Lunch 12 or 12:30
Nap 1:30-2:30 or 3pm then bottle
Dinner with us around 6 or 6:30
Bath, bottle and bed around 7:30, in cot by 8:30.

@Lammveg my LO was sleeping great last week for a week and a half we had 11/12 hours of sleep at night with no wake ups! Then it went down hill again with multiple wake ups. But just yesterday I decided to not give him the third catnap of the day and stretch out that final wake window and lo and behold he's still asleep now since 7.10pm last night! 😭

@Gamechanger2019 I got this app with my eldest and felt like it wasn't always accurate! It was sometimes but not all of the time. It was fab when it worked well 😂

@violetcuriosity @wishIwasonholiday10 so looks like my best bet is taking away that third and final catnap. I was thinking it was time to drop to two naps.
Tried it yesterday and DS2 is still currently asleep since 7.10pm last night so goodbye third nap me thinks! 🤞🏽

We did 2,3,4 wake pattern at this age and it fit her sleep needs perfectly.

ExcitingRicotta · 18/10/2023 07:06

@FebMama dropping the third could def help! As long as the other two are good? I think you need to look at total daytime sleep and limit to around 230 hours.
Mine does:
wake 6:30/7 milk
breakfast either 7:30 or 8:30 (depending on nursery run!)
nap around 9am. Usually wake after around 30/35mins
Milk around 10/1030
Lunch 1130
Nap 12-2
Milk around 230
Sometimes a small snack around 430/5
530 dinner
6 bath
630 bottle
645 bed
sleeps through v reliably

Thanks so much @guild and @ExcitingRicotta

For the last two days I've loosely worked towards the 2,3,4 routine and it's working okay (I think?!). LO has just gone down for the night so time will tell!

calorcalorcalor · 18/10/2023 20:33

6.30 Wake up
7.00 Milk
8.30ish Nap
9.30 Breakfast
11.30ish Nap
12.30 Lunch
2ish Nap
4pm Dinner
7pm Milk & sleep

Still on 3 naps a day here ubt they are all short, 35-45 mins! Not sure how to get these long naps I keep reading about!

Sunsetred · 18/10/2023 20:58

I drove myself mad trying to force a routine with DD1 so didn't bother with DD2 as it was exhausting. We've kind of found our own natural rhythm with things. It's nice to have a routine but don't worry if it doesn't always go to plan each day!

FebMama · 18/10/2023 21:30

@calorcalorcalor my little one was only doing 30-40 minute naps up until just a few days ago! Now I've started to extend his wake windows slightly I feel like he's getting the hang of longer naps.

@Sunsetred you're absolutely right I really don't want to become to rigid with routines as i think it's equally as important to go with the flow sometimes and allow babies to adapt and be flexible, especially if we have plans that are out of the ordinary!

Thank you so much for those who replied to this thread with suggestions... after making some tweaks to DS2's routine, he's now back to sleeping through the night 7pm - 7am 😭🙏🏽

I'll be back to make a new thread when it all screws up again haha
