Joie 360 won't lock

Hi, anyone have a Joie 360 car seat and found it won't lock in either forwards or backwards position? Also how dangerous is it to drive with the car seat not locked (ie able to be spun without depressing the side lever?)

I had this with my Cybex spin seat. I googled it and found advice to hit it and it worked! Where the button or lever is that you squeeze to spin the seat, issue a firm blow upwards like you're trying to hit it out of the roof of your car!

Thanks so much, I've tried this but it's still not locking. Sigh. Will contact Joie!

You must NOT use the seat if it won't lock into place. It would behave unpredictably in an accident and may not be able to protect your child. This is a fault with the seat, so you need to go back to either Joie or your retailer. It is usually that debris has got into the rotating mechanism but it's not something that you can fix yourself at home unfortunately, beyond a bit of wiggling and jiggling - you can try tipping it upside down and shaking, just be careful not to drop it or hurt yourself!

Don't add any kind of lubricant (e.g. WD40) to the seat - this is explicitly stated in the manual (I know you didn't suggest it, I just thought I'd say!)

Hi,
Did you manage to get a solution for this issue as mine is doing the same too.
Thanks

lw1089 · 29/01/2024 16:18

Following as the same is happening with mine but I'm fairly sure it'll be out of warranty as bought over 2 years ago.

It is worth contacting them anyway as I have heard their customer service is very good. What do you have to lose? Give it a try.

Hi,
I had the same problem.
There is a pocket for the manual at the back of the chair. You can spread the plastic there a bit more and you will be able to access the locking mechanism. I just used a bit of a silicone spray and it locks again.
I hope it helps.

Lubricants are not allowed to be used anywhere on the car seat as they might affect safety critical functions. I'd check with the manufacturer if you're going to attempt any kind of home fix like this.

I had the same problem and was able to fix but it was a bit tricky. As per previous post, locate the locking mechanism inside the seat by spreading the plastic. Stick your hand in there and have a good feel around to familiarise yourself with the components. Then, with your hand still inside, use your other hand to pull the one of the handles either side of the seat that you would normally use to release the lock. This will move the mechanism inside so you can locate the relevant part and feel how it moves. This moving part is the one that is jammed. Once you've got your hand on the correct part inside the seat, move the car seat into the desired position and then try to lock it manually. It involves pushing, pulling and jiggling the part inside the seat until it locks into place. I don't know how to describe it better and it might take some practicing but it worked for me. It's not really a long term solution though to have to do this every time so you should really get it fixed permanently. But in an emergency, it can help you to get the seat into a locked position. It would probably be a lot easier with a second person to help too. Good luck!
