My daughter is turning 9 and we're having 7 of her friends over for lunch and games (madness). I need to lay some entertainment on, otherwise they'll be hairing up and down the stairs shrieking the whole time. Obviously we can do musical statues etc. But I'm trying to remember some better games. There's the one where you cut chocolate up, my oven gloves but I can't fully remember it! There's one called ladders I used to play in brownies. Please tell me your favourite games!

Cracker Whistle: Everyone has to stuff 4 dry crackers in their mouths at once (no drinks!) and whoever can whistle first wins.

Murder Shake: You fill a hat with folded-up pieces of paper. One of them designates one of the kids as the "murderer". Then everyone stands up and starts shaking each other's hands - ie each person shakes someone's hand and then turn around and shakes another person's hand, and so on, and everyone does this all at the same time as a crowd. But whenever the "murderer" shakes someone's hand, they have to discreetly tickle/scratch the other person's hand. And any person who gets tickled has to them drop down "dead". The object of the game is to guess who the murderer is before you get killed!

Slime making?

A favourite of mine is where you have to play a tune on a kazoo and the others guess what song it is.

Does it have to be party games? Could it be an activity instead? Decorate T shirts, paint pots etc or games like giant jenga or twister

Winking murder

Chocolate game. Block of chocolate on chopping board, knife and fork. Everyone in a circle taking turns at rolling a dice. If you roll a 6 you can cut off a square of chocolate and eat it. Everyone else keeps rolling the dice and if someone else rolls a 6 then they take over.

Heads and tails. Everyone puts their hands on either their head or their bottom. Throw a coin. If it’s heads and you guessed heads you stay in. It keeps going until only one person is left and they get a sweet. Do as many rounds as you like.

Pin the nose on the snowman/tail on donkey or whatever meets your theme.

Duck duck goose.

Let them decorate their own party bags - use paper bags or Chinese takeaway boxes. Give them stickers and glitter pens.

Sardines
