Hi

Im going to buy the ikea high chair after many recommendations. For those who already use one, would you say that a cushion insert and extra leg rest are necessary too?

Leg rest for the whole time it's used. We have a non-IKEA one we've added to the Antilop. Make sure they are strapped in a supervised as it makes it easier to climb out!

Cusion with a spare cover (they go in the wash) is good for better sitting up when they're still a baby.

I had a washable cushion cover and it was fine to bung in the wash. Looked cute, dont think the dc cared either way.

I got rid of our footrest after DS learned to push up on it and lean forward over the tray, then fling himself backwards. How he didn't topple it over I don't know. He was strapped in, but it scared me. I think h liked the sound it made as it scooted backwards along the tiles.

Do get a spare tray. Either to use the second one for painting/ messy crafts or so that a clean one can go straight on after the dirty one has been taken off (I put mine in the dishwasher to clean 😬)
