Do I need a new mattress?

So we are due to have our first baby in a few months and my best friend is giving me her snoozepod that has been stored in her attic for 10 years. It is unused, unopened in the box as they co-slept with the baby and never set it up - they kept it incase they had another child.
I know you shouldn’t reuse/store mattresses but does this apply to mattresses that haven’t been used but have been stored (and it has been stored for quite a while)? I’m not sure if it will be wrapped in plastic, we haven’t got it out of the attic to look in the box yet as we are still a few months away and it’s easier to just leave it where it is for now!

Not sure about old SnuzPods but having bought a new mattress for a SnuzPod earlier this year it came in a cardboard box, I don't remember it being plastic wrapped.

Technology and materials move on so quickly these days I'd be inclined to buy a new mattress regardless though - check the size is the same first though obviously!

My friends gave me 2 moses baskets. Never changed the mattress. I've got a travel cot and again won't be changing the mattress.
