How to get some quite time ? Struggling

My son is 3 and he's such an early riser. He's also been waking 2-3 times during the night so my sleep is so broken.

He doesn't nap anymore during the day and I get zero quiet time. Today I am practically falling asleep on my feet and need to close my eyes but I can't do it!

If I close my eyes for 2 minutes he's jumping on me or shouting for me or doing something dangerous like throwing balls at the tv.

I've told him it's quiet time and put in a movie for him or his iPad but he just wants to narrate what's going on to me.

I'm physically and mentally exhausted! This is a daily occurrence.
I go to my bed when he goes to his most night just to try and get a long stretch of sleep.

Any tips ?

Going to bed when he does is sensible. How long is he getting in total? Do you work or have any childcare? Any family nearby?

What tiny said.

Go to bed when he does

I would tire him out as much as possible - lots of fresh air , swimming . 3 year olds are exhausting thou !

Time for nursery me thinks!

LemonAda376 · 09/10/2023 19:12

He's normally asleep from 7.30-8pm but he can awake anywhere from 5am onwards. He's never slept past 6.30 in his life.

I would get a good stretch but he has been waking 3-4 nights recently needing settled and then it takes me ages to get back to sleep. Sometimes I'm awake for an hour in between.

If ongoing waking issues beyond a phase - see your GP / Heath visitor. We had this and it turned out my son had rhinitis, his nose would become inflamed, block and he'd wake up. It was hard to catch it happening, but I eventually saw a polyp like thing in his nose (came up / down). A steroid spray which we lightly used for a short period and is resolved. Definitely check for medical issues.

If not a medical issue - I'd try morning nursery (if not already going). Would give you a break and hopefully tire him out / make him sleep better in the evening.

@mycatsanutter

We do a class or two every day plus walks and Scoots around and park when it's nice! He's like a Duracell bunny !!
