Listeria worry

Hello

Is it possible to give a baby listeria if you eat a ham sandwich, not wash your hands afterwards and then accidentally touch the pacifier?
My DD took the pacifier before I realized this and now I'm losing my mind. I did not preppare the ham sandwich. It was ready-made.

Please don’t panic, I’d say the chances of this are absolutely minuscule

dementedpixie · 08/10/2023 14:33

Why is this something you are worrying about? You obviously ate the sandwich; would you do that if you thought it was contaminated with listeria?

Turtlegurl888 · 08/10/2023 14:35

Why would it give the baby listeria? Am I missing something? How many times after you've eaten a sandwich have you had listeria??? 😳

With kindness @Flowermoon90, I think if this is something that's worrying you to that extent you might be ill.

Have you got a lot of anxiety over the health of the baby? Have you spoken to your MW/HV and sought some help?

Please speak to PANDS Foundation and tell them how you're feeling Flowers

AegonT · 08/10/2023 16:40

I would speak to your health visitor; it sounds like you have anxiety.

Flowermoon90 · 09/10/2023 11:34

Since it contained a cold cut, I am scared it might have been contaminated. I just remembered the risk after eating the sandwich and touching the pacifier.

As far as I know, healthy adults might contract listeria and show no signs.

It is specially dangerous for pregnant people and newborns.

I am taking sertraline and psychotherapy sessions for my anxiety, but I cannot tell if my worries are legitimate or not anymore

is is a very odd thing to be concerned about suddenly after, as a PP has pointed out, how many preprepared sandwiches you've eaten in your life [without getting listeria] and after having already eaten it yourself. I echo that of speaking to a professional about potential PPA as that level of anxiety is neither healthy nor sustainable.

OP, you’ve posted two threads in two weeks about listeria.

Have you spoken to your therapist about this specific fear?

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 09/10/2023 19:33

Agree with Docke. I think that you need to speak to one of the Professionals involved in your care about this particular fear Flowers

There are good days and bad days, but I believe the pills I've been taking have started to work.m, so my OCD does not feel so much out ofco trol anymore.
On the other hand,I am coming down with a cold,so I feel miserable and worried for my D D. :(

If it's a cold it's unlikely to be anything that your LO can't handle. If she does get it, and it's a big if, she might just need some extra cuddles.

Make sure you have some paracetamol for you and some nice tissues and plenty of drinks Flowers

AegonT · 16/10/2023 13:52

Try not to worry about your cold. Babies and children lots of colds and are usually fine to carry on as normal. Sometimes they need help clearing their noses or a bit of paracetamol.
