Won’t roll back

Little one 6 months old. Can roll from back to tummy but can’t / won’t roll tummy to back. It gets so bad he screams and is crying in frustration. I have tried to leave him to it but he just won’t roll back over. Don’t know what to do. His neck isn’t quite ready and I’m worried he’s behind.

I thought this was totally normal, although usually it's the other way around I think (they roll front to back before they roll back to front). But generally it's not unusual that they learn to roll one way and not the other.
It's frustrating for them but the only thing you can do is tummy time and encouraging them to turn the other way (with a noisy toy for instance).

Some babies never roll at all, he is not "behind". And why would his neck not be strong enough?

My baby rolled back to front first and would always be doing it then crying yes as she's never been a fan of tummy time or being on her front, she rolled back herself at 7 months. Just give him time :)

Is baby having enough floor time? Not too much time in chairs/buggies? Have you got things baby can reach for? It's early days yet so don't worry 😀

thanks everyone! Yeah tonnes of tummy time with lots of things around him. He’s definitely got a good grip and grabs well! Just unsure why he won’t roll himself back. We’re wanting to wean but his head is still a bit wobbly whereas I know others his age are well in to the weaning stage. Just worried I’ve done something wrong

Following with interest! My baby started rolling back to tummy at 5 months, he’s now just 7 months and still can’t roll back. I leave him on his tummy for as long as I can when he rolls, but he gets very frustrated and shouty. He can sit unaided but just can’t roll tummy to back. Hoping it will happen soon as he spends a lot of time on the floor and I am being shouted at because he can’t get himself back!

Mine rolled front to back at 4.5 months. Didn't roll back to from until 11 months. No one has ever had any developmental concerns over him.

It's just a phase as they learn new skills. Totally normal to roll, get stuck, scream, be put back then immediately roll and get stuck again. Tiresome at the time, but it won't last long. Rolling one way is a different skill set to rolling the other way.

All three of mine rolled from back to front early, but really struggled the other way. I think because if they're not careful going front to back they end up clunking their massive heads. It can help to give them (supervised!) playtime on a really padded surface, on the bed or a folded duvet on the floor. My eldest got so frustrated, I put her on the bed one morning and rolled her side to side till she got a feel for it.

My babies just didn't roll. First only rolled for the first time when started crawling and flipped over to crawl away from a nappy change, to my surprise.

They are healthy young teens now. Please don't worry. Although the crying sounds frustrating for both of you!
