Under 2 Autism

Hello mums.

I’ve got a feeling my 21 month old may be showing signs of autism but am not sure if it’s just my mind running away with me.

My son’s nursery said he should get his hearing checked because he is not responsive to his name and doesn’t do “great listening”. I was worried however over the last few days he has consistently responded to his name.

His speech is below average but improving and he has said some new words in the last few days. He points and has good understanding (can follow simple instructions). He doesn’t “stim”.

My main concern is that he avoids eye contact unless it’s on his terms. I also worry about his “joint observation” as he sometimes will show me things but will rarely seek my reaction to something. He doesn’t show much interest in his brother but will copy him sometimes and play with the same toys but not much.

Am I going mad?! I’m really worried and have been having trouble sleeping so end up googling, which means Al my social media feeds are FULL of “when my toddler regressed” and “these were the signs”.

help!! Xxx

Well, Nursery are right that a hearing check is always a good starting point.
