Find me a night nappy

I've been using disposables at night and I'm just fed up with the feckin' evil things.

During the day ds is in flat bamboo terries as we have no drier, no outside access, and a very, very cramped flat - they are the only things that dry in a day (usually). But ds soaks them all the way round within about 4hrs.

Suggestions, please?

I use one called Huggle by Minki (hate these names!). It is the only one that stays reasonably dry all night. Has a pocket for an extra booster adn that gets my dd through the night. You would need three though cos it takes more than a day to dry.

hawesmead5 · 06/03/2008 20:51

Hi there
I use a combination of the following all combined with a bamboo booster, minki huggle, bambinex teddy and lollipop softee. I also use a minki wrap and have only had the occassional leak. I like them all really the minki huggle is a great absorber but goes a bit crunchy in the was whereas the lollipop and the teddy stay lovely and soft

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 06/03/2008 20:57

Sorry hawesmead, unclear - you don't put all those on at same time do you? I take it they are each nappies, used with wrap and booster?

I do love my motherease airflow wraps, thought I could carry on using them over whatever else I use...

Airflows make excellent night wraps IMO, not all noisy like velcro can be, they are more flexible and breatheable without making the jarmies moist by morning! I have used them over every night nappy I have used. You may need to get the next size up though depending on what night nappy you use.

If you use flat bamboo terries you are half way there to one of my suggestions. I use a pad folded bamboo terry inside a pocket nappy and it works well for me. Like your DS, my DD soaks through the 'normally' folded bamboo terries in about 3-4 hours but using a pad-folded one in a pocket nappy is a different matter and lasts all night as you have many layers of bamboo to soak through. I use a lollipop fleecey pocket nappy as I got it free - doesn't require a wrap, they are similar to a minki pocket nappy. tbh I really would suggest you try that out

Alternatively anything microfibre like the lollipop softee, bambinex teddy or totsbots fluffle will be quick drying but IME not as absorbant a pad folded bamboo terry so you'd have to boost a fair bit.

I use Ellas House Bumhuggers at night but, like the huggle they take a while to dry - 1.5 days. Fab night nappy though IMO - their omplete fleece lining is great (which, incedentally, is what you get if you use the lollipop fleece pocket nappy I mentioned.

hm mammatulip, folding two together might work - hadn't thought of that.

would need to get bigger wraps though. gonna need them soon anyhow!

For quick drying i get away nicely with std minki pockets which you can stuff with your bamboo squares or anything else to hand... I also have drybees nightime which are a similar fleece pocket to a minki but not so huge. Other than that a nice bimble stuffed with a microterry and bundled in a wrap of sorts (preferably wool).

My ds has had nightime sposies this week and they smell gross especially as he has had nightime diarhoea explosions of epic proportions - I have been putting a wrap over them to try and contain it as sposies alone just dont.

Well my recommendations are:

  1. wambamboo with 3 extra bamboo boosters (tho this won't dry quickly for you)

  2. baby bufters quick dry night nappy - these are fab.

Wraps wise, I like wool soakers best tbh. Otherwise Mother-Ease rikki or airflow.

okay minki pockets, stuffed with folded flat bamboo terries + airflow wrap, have I got that right?

OP posts:
BigBadMouse · 07/03/2008 21:16

Almost! - you don't need a wrap with the minki pocket - it has a hidden waterproof PUL layer see here

Of course you could still pop an airflow over the top if you wanted to just to be extra leak-proof

oliviaelanasmum · 08/03/2008 08:51

I use fluffles with an added microfibre cloth to boost and wool wrap.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 11:37

ah now one penny's just dropped for me -- I've had a few goes with fleece wraps that have totally not worked at all for us: that velcro thing across the tummy just doesn't fit him at all well (think buddha, with very lean bum-area) and they always leak.

Plus, recently he's been terrified of the sound of velcro , and frankly nappy-change time is enough of a struggle as it is.

So that knocks out... which ones? the minkis? fluffles?

OP posts:
oliviaelanasmum · 08/03/2008 11:42

I have fluffles with nippa fitting and some with popper fittings, i use the motherease popper wraps (airflow??) as we have same problem with velcro wraps!

BoysOnToast · 08/03/2008 12:06

my night nappy recommendation:

ME Sandys or OS in BAMBOO

boosted with 2 meos bamboo liners , and 1 meos stay-dry liner (against the skin)

all wrapped up in some woolywrap shorties.

i have a v heavy wetter and this works without being utterly ridiculously bulky.

take a while to dry but if you have enough for 2 nights it should see you right... ive never had to make a mid-night change.

BigBadMouse · 08/03/2008 15:35

They used to do a popper fit Minki but you;d hae to search the secind hand market to find one now I think. You want the standard minki not the slinki unless you have a tiny baby.

An alternative would be theminki yoyo but not sure your DS would be old enough for one yet. They are pull up pocket trainer pants with side poppers, but they start at size 18M.

I'd use a pad folded bamboo terry with your normal night nappy until you can find something else. There are other popper fit pocket nappies like pocket bots which worked well for me (even at night) but I found most others leaked. The drybees Nappyzone recommended are velcro fit too .

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 08/03/2008 15:35

I am selling my XXL fuzzis if interested.

TheApprentice · 08/03/2008 15:40

I too use a lollipop softie at night as ds was wetting through the bamboozles. Apparently the microfibre ones are good if your child does big wees (!) as they quickly disperse the liquid unlike the bamboo (which i use in the day). The lollipop rep suggested using them with a booster and then a wrap (I use motherease airflow) one size bigger than you would use in the day. This seems to work for me!

FourPlusOne · 08/03/2008 15:48

I use a shaped nappy at night (onelife, kiwi flip, or sandy), with a bamboo square on top (folded and nippad as normal - that is for my DD who wees a lot at night. She would prob saturate a bamboo square in 4 hours too. Then I use a larger than normal wrap.

Use the minki stuffable at night with DS and had bought a few initially as they are both in night nappies (and the large of these covers a large range, 18-40lbs I think), but I don't find this enough for my DD and they leak on her by halfway through the night.

Flamesparrow · 08/03/2008 17:53

I'm like 4+1 but the other way round - I have a square under the bamboo quick flip so I can yank just that out if he poos right after getting him ready for bed. Wool wraps all the way for me

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 19:15

oh god my head is hurting, it's like a whole new language!

OP posts:
PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 19:27

okay - would it be utterly bonkers to try the flat terries with a hemp booster and airflow wrap?

or does it have to be a pocket nappy?

OP posts:
PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 19:28

pocket bots look good, how quickly do they dry?
