Find me a night nappy

I've been using disposables at night and I'm just fed up with the feckin' evil things.

During the day ds is in flat bamboo terries as we have no drier, no outside access, and a very, very cramped flat - they are the only things that dry in a day (usually). But ds soaks them all the way round within about 4hrs.

Suggestions, please?

Pocket Bots dry very quickly.

If I were you here's what my plan would be.

Place a pad folded bamboo terry square outside or inside your normally folded bamboo terry and plonk an airflow over the top. Not sure how well that is going to work, I suspect that either your airflow wrap will be too small to fit the lot in or the roominess of the airflow will allow the pad to move about too much - hopefully putting the pad inside your nappy will stop that but then you might not be able to fit your normally folded terry around a pad folded bamboo IYSWIM.

If your bamboo terries won't stretch around a pad folded bamboo terry then try a quick flip (forgot about those - very good) or a pocket nappy. Quick flips and pocket nappies are all quick drying - make sure you get a quick flip that will be roomy enough for a pad booster.

If you use hemp boosters definitely make sure you have something more absorbant in front of the hemp. Hemp is V absorbant but takes a while to absorb, so the wee can just sit in the nappy before being absorbed and this can lead to leaks. I use hemp nappies but use a microfibre cloth to mop up things quickly - works a treat!

hope that doesn't make your head hurt more

actually now I think about it, although the bamboo terries are good and absorbent I do find if they're on for 3-4hours, the paper liner I use is overwhelmed and his skin is stinky/clammy as well.

Think I should switch to fleece liners?

lord, a 4-part nappy arrangement on an octopus baby. there's going to be some shouting in the phd household, I can tell!

quick flip as mentioned by flame and 4+1. They are made by little kiwi - lots of people use them for night times.

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 20:35

okay, someone better explain the bat thing to me. Not knowing is making me feel a right nancy-no-friends!

Fleece would be better if you are happy to use it - some prefer the 'disposableness' of the paper liners but I find they make my DDs skin clammy very quickly.

Your octopus baby is why I suggested the pocket nappy with bamboo pad, uses what you already have plus one pocket nappy but only one action to put it on.

I suppose it's only once a day if you go for the 4 parter. How old is DS?

Just to confuse you even more, I have just discovered wee notions night nappies
You can choose the inner, outer and filling. I have the side snap one which is a great fit with hemp fleece outer, fleece inner an bamboo terry filling. It is fantastic. Best night nappy I've ever used and because the inside can be taken out and unfolded it is quick drying.

'tis true mammatulip. I'm taking an age to type tonight as DH is discussing cars and engineering with me at the same time as I type - I'm not too good at multitasking anymore.

BigBadMouse · 08/03/2008 20:46

Poor PhDlife - I bet diposables seem a really good idea after asking this question on here

He is 10m. We're already doing liner + nappy + nippa + wrap (me sitting on him ) so 4-parter won't be THAT much worse

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 08/03/2008 20:51

oh no I am glad I asked.

have just been in to settle him and he already PONGS - worse, I know that unless dh and I risk changing him at bedtime we will wake up in a wet spot again tomorrow . So this convo is long overdue, really. Thanks so much for advice, it is helping lots!

The wriggling gets better with age, eventually most seem to develop the ability to lay still for 40 secs while you put a nappy on them. DD2 is just getting there again at 22 months

Oh it just flies by
